What tech admins should consider when taking districts paperless

Going paperless with forms and approval flows that need to be seen by school staff, teachers, and parents seems like a no-brainer these days. Max, Technology Analyst with Oakland Unified School District, couldn't agree more. Everyone at his district was also on the same page: moving all their key forms and processes was a long-overdue step in the right direction. Still, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. We put together this quick guide to help you decide which forms technology departments can start with on their paperless initiatives to deliver fast wins for the entire district.

An inspiring Saturday with high school coders in Oakland

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of participating in Oakland Hacks, a hackathon for high school students from all around the Bay Area, hosted by Oakland Technical High School. (For those who don't know, a hackathon is an event where a group of people get together and break into groups to "hack" or code a project together over the course of a day or two, with prizes often handed out at the end of the event)

3 things to consider before automating your K12 Human Resources processes

Spring is a natural time to reflect on how to improve the coming year's HR processes. As Joann from Fremont Union High School District saw, running your processes online is one way to make a big impact on your department. Managing processes manually and tracking every moving piece of the puzzle takes hours and hours of time and makes it impossible to find critical documents that might have gone missing. Going paperless seems like a no-brainer these days when everything in our lives seems to be organized online, from banking to taxes — but knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. We put together this quick guide to help you decide which forms to bring online first.

Introducing the Chalk Schools community

One of the driving forces behind what we do at Chalk Schools is our commitment to working with our local communities to make a positive impact. Many of our customers are public schools and districts, which makes sense given 76% of K-12 schools in the U.S. are public institutions. Beyond that, a community of our own is beginning to form: our inspired, driven, and passionate customers who are leading the charge to help their schools and districts run at their best.
